Escape the fast pace and slow down…enjoy the outdoors in Washington, NC…. 

Boating: Enjoy an afternoon on the open water by arranging a sailing charter at The Carolina Wind Yachting Center. For those interested in learning how to sail their own boat, rentals of kayaks, Sunfish or Hobie Cats, visit The East Carolina Sailing School. Teach your children the love of sailing at the Little Washington Sailing Club, a weekly instructional program. Kayak rentals and tours are found at Inner Banks Outfitters. For a conveniently located marina and dock for your boat, contact Broad Creek Marina, McCotter’s Marina or the Town Docks in Washington.

Fishing: Pack up your fishing gear and prepare to reel in striped bass, flounder, red drum and much more. The crew of Fishibx welcomes all aboard for an unforgettable fishing expedition. Stop by East Side Bait and Tackle for local fishing knowledge, guides and supplies.

Hunting: If you are a hunter, you know Eastern North Carolina is loaded with game. Let Warren’s Sport Headquarters outfit you for your next expedition. Hunter’s Pointe Sporting Clays is a first rate shooting facility. In the Spring, Washington hosts the Wildlife Arts Festival and Decoy Carving Contest.

Family Fun: With options that range between the PCM Skate Park, art camp at the Beaufort County Arts Council, hiking, nature preserves, shark tooth hunts or just paddling around of the River, families are sure to experience an unforgettable and fun filled time. State Parks and Gardens: Plush gardens, nature trails, picnic tables and swimming access lure in visitors and natives to the state parks of Washington. Estuarium: Get in tune with nature by strengthening your understanding of estuarine systems, sounds and coastal rivers. The North Carolina Estuarium features over 200 exhibits, aquariums and environmental artworks. A pontoon boat ride into the areas habitats and history allots visitors an up close educational opportunity. The Turnage Theater: Originally built as a Vaudeville Theater and, in later additions, was modeled after the Palace Theater of New York. History: Take time to visit Historic Bath, North Carolina. Bath is the oldest town in the state, the first capital of North Carolina and home to the oldest existing church, St Thomas. Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard the pirate, called Bath home.

Events: The area is home to loads of fun festivals and events. Peruse the listings of events at visitwashingtonnc.com. Here are a few of our favorites: the Wildlife Arts Festival and Decoy Carving Contest, Croquet Tournament, Beaufort County Music Festival, Skateboard Contest, Holiday Flotilla, Summer Festival and Smoke on the Water. If you would like to be involved in supporting the environment and the ecology of River, sign up for the Kayakalon, a kayak, bike and run event. The proceeds support the Pamlico Tar River Foundation.

Group Functions: Washington has wonderful facilities for your wedding, reunion or conference needs. The Washington Civic Center, North Carolina Estuarium Center and Turnage Theater are available for large groups. Numerous lovely and historic churches are located in our town. East Carolina University: Get away from the hustle bustle of Greenville while visiting the University for graduation, football, medical service, business meetings or reunions. Washington is a brief 20 minute ride east of Greenville.

Boss Hog’s Backyard Barbeque: It wouldn’t be an Eastern North Carolina vacation without sampling our barbeque. The ribs, chopped pork barbeque and chicken are great.
